I came back home to New York from Christmas, walked into my apartment…and hated everything. Kidding, sort of. There were a few things I knew I wanted to change but knew I wanted to wait until after the holidays to do so. I’ve learned in every space that I’ve ever lived in, that I need a refresh every six months or so. That can be with new accessories or just by rearranging the space and pulling from other spaces to switch things up! Here’s an idea of what the space looked like when we first moved in! I had the big stuff covered for the most part, It was just a matter of finishing It off just right and here’s a breakdown of what we did to make that happen!
Our couch has a reversible chaise lounge so we swapped It to the other side and moved the chair to be facing out. I loved the green chair that was in our apartment, but when we changed the layout of the room It was a big, dark blob right in the middle of the room. I also realized after moving our tv stand over, we had room for a second chair! Not having a chair directly In front of this window made the room look SO much more open and I loved that no matter what seat you had in the apartment, you had a great view of the city.
When we first moved in, I didn’t want curtains to block the view. I learned after a few months of not having them what a DIFFERENCE they make! We added two single panels and they instantly made everything more cozy. Life lesson: always add curtains!
Our bar cart was too small for the wall It was on, so we moved It into its own corner and It isn’t nearly as dwarfed. The other wall was really big and I think no matter what we did, It never would have felt filled. Insert: floor length mirror that not only took up space, but also made that part of the apartment feel much bigger! We were able to move our favorite movie posters above It as well and changed to a lighter frame that I already had so It wouldn’t get too cluttered. I’m a big believer in balancing light in a room, so if you have a lamp in one corner instead of putting a second lamp adjacent to It, add It in the opposite corner. This lamp was on our side table but distracted from the window, so moving It to the bar cart allowed It to fill that corner and balance where the other floor lamp was.
This corner is my FAVORITE! I was hesitant on this floor lamp because of how modern It was but because of the direction the rest of the room was going in, I thought It would work and It DID! The new chairs are such a light color but not stark white and therefore don’t stain easily…praise the Lord. I thought they were the perfect subtle, but still beautiful, accent chairs!
I have a few more refreshes coming your way in the next few weeks, thanks for tagging along with the process! Love you all!
