“Every sunrise brings a new beginning, a new chance for renewal.” –Unknown
As we step into this new season, it is the best time to introduce this month’s word of the month: renewal.
We can feel that refreshing, crisp sense in the air—springtime is certainly here (or at least around the corner, depending on what part of the country you’re in).
Growing up, the summertime used to be my favorite. I mean—who doesn’t love swimming, sunshine, and cookouts? And don’t get me wrong, it still is right up there; but there is just something about the spring that makes me feel amazing.
And as I’ve gotten older, I realize that those springtime butterflies are brought about by the overall sense of renewal that comes along with it.
The sun starts shining more, the temperatures rise, and people seem, well… happier. Everything feels fresh, new, and brighter.
My mother was also a huge proponent of “spring cleaning” in our house. She’d push back the curtains, crack the windows open, and would play some music throughout the house and all 8 of us would split up chores and get to work. We’d clean our closets, deep clean our bedrooms, refresh different areas of the house, clean the windows—anything and everything that could be cleaned, refreshed, or revitalized—we did it.
And after winter, this was (and is) so necessary to do to feel refreshed and renewed. It allows you to start the new season on the right foot and get all the winter blues energy out of your home!
Renewal is about refreshing what we have, moving furniture and decor around, and introducing new elements that spark joy and inspiration.
There are so many ways you can fully embrace the springtime and feel renewed throughout your life. And a clean space is a wonderful way to start.
Open your windows, let the sunshine in, turn on your favorite playlist and get to work! Clean out your closet, donate any clothes you don’t ever wear (or even remember you owned), rearrange your furniture, and get some fresh plants to ring in the new season and the new spring-version of you.
To me, renewal does not have to mean buying something new. It can be about rediscovering or reimaging pieces in your home or your closet that can be repurposed. You’d be surprised with what you can throw together when you give yourself a little extra time (and have a clearer and cleaner mind and space) to do so.
With all of this in mind, renewal isn’t also just about cleaning, organizing, or decluttering your space. It is about cleaning, organizing, and decluttering your mind. So much of what we have in our spaces clogs up and overwhelms our brains, leaving us feeling sluggish, uninspired, and heavy. It is so important to refresh our mindset and create intentional changes that bring us positivity, growth, and the overall sense of feeling renewed.
