Chores.
Those little pesky, often annoying for-no-good-reason, time-consuming tasks that we all need to do, yet none of us really love to do. But we love, love, love a clean home, so we do what we gotta do.
Wiping down your counter, cleaning your oven, finding a good scent for your space, sweeping and mopping your floor, dusting every nook and cranny—just for it to be clean for maybe a week—can be quite, uh, well… not all that fun.
And something we’ve been learning and adopting in our lives is to romanticize every single corner of them. Every aspect.
And yes, that includes those irksome little tasks you need to do regularly.
If we allow it, we can make things we all need or have to do everything a real pain. And that’s not healthy and sparks absolutely zero joy.
The tasks and maintenance you need to do in your life–or if I may reframe it, the tasks and maintenance you get to do in your life—should be romanticized, glamorized, relaxercized, and made enjoyable (in one way or another). Why? Because these little moments are inescapable. They often take us away from traditional sources of joy, so if we’re being intentional in every aspect of our lives, shouldn’t we strive to make even the mundane as joyful as possible?
We are firm believers in that you can romanticize almost everything (we are still trying to figure out how to romanticize taking the trash out, so stay tuned). Whether it be because we’re parents now or just because we’re getting older, we are learning to master making magic in the smallest moments — sometimes to entertain a two year old, and sometimes to entertain ourselves!
Recently, we’ve been focusing on two tasks to help refresh our home regularly: vacuuming/mopping daily and finding scents to fill the spaces in our home.
Now that we have carpet, rugs, and hardwood all over our home, we realize how serious vacuuming and mopping is (especially while having a toddler!). Not only do you need to vacuum to keep your carpet clean, you need to vacuum to preserve it, so it lasts longer and stays fluffy for as long as possible. It is a daily maintenance that can certainly take some time.
And we don’t always have the time to whip out the Dyson (which seems to be dead whenever we need it most), so we have found the perfect item for us that does the work for us while we can do literally anything else other than vacuum: the Narwal Freo Z10! It vacuums AND mops while staying tangle free and incredibly precise! You also can control it from an app, which is such an incredible feature. We feel like we have a new member in our household. After a couple of weeks with our new companion, we decided to name him Percival — Percie for short!
We have always been scent nerds. We love a niche fragrance for our bodies, a relaxing spritz of lavender on our pillow before bed, and a fresh, luxurious smell throughout the house that makes us feel like we are in a boutique hotel.
This product isn’t anything new to The Page Edit, but it is something I am so beyond passionate about and grateful that it exists as it is our go-to for our home: the Pura diffuser.
We’ve been using it for years at this point, but it really is one of those products that makes such a difference in your home. It is so sleek and goes with any aesthetic. Like the Narwal Freo Z10, it is also app controlled and you can set a timer on the device to go off at prime-times so you aren’t wasting it all day while you’re out of the house. If you are like me and still love candles, but have a toddler and pets—then look no further!
And better yet, Pura is running their Mother’s Day sale which is 20% off sitewide. It is such an ideal gift for a fragrance loving mother (or for anyone) who likes anything from fruity scents to floral to woodsy scents—there is something she’ll love at Pura. Who doesn’t love a home that smells amazing?
With both of these products, they require us to do absolutely nothing but tap our phone screens and enjoy. And that is the epitome of a little luxury that makes something that you don’t really like to do—something you like to do.
