The Most Underrated Room in Your House: The Bathroom

As silly as this sounds, I feel like my life changed when I realized that bathrooms do not have to be boring.

They don’t have to be stale, sterile, and sad—yet why does it seem like we’ve all accepted this as the status quo? And why have gone along with decorating our entire homes but often leaving our bathrooms alone to be cold, bright, intrusive spaces we barely want to be in?

We now look at our bathroom as not just as another space to decorate, but a space to dedicate extra time to because we want it to be relaxing and a space that we enjoy going in everyday.

When we lived in New York, chic speakeasies and restaurants often paid special attention to their bathrooms, and that resonated with me so much. They thoughtfully selected everything from the fixtures to the wallpaper/paint, the tile, and even the boxes that held tissues and hand towels.

And let me tell you, I fell in love with this.

But it also is like a spa. If you go to a spa, the bathrooms are inviting, warm, and a relaxing place to decompress. When you feel that you want to spend the whole day in a bathroom, you know someone has done it right. Who says eucalyptus shower spray only has to exist in the walls of a spa shower? It is relatively low-priced on Amazon for you to put in your own shower!

This is exactly the sort of intention I wanted to introduce to our bathrooms. We want them to be more than just functional—we want them to be spaces where we can get ready for the day, unwind, and a place that makes us simply feel good when we are in them.

And now that we are in the midst of renovating one and have already updated another, we’ve been able to replicate these styles in our own way that makes us feel that feeling. We are striving to infuse these styles into our own spaces, creating bathrooms that feel both luxurious and comforting.

As we often talk about here, you don’t have to go as far as a full renovation to make subtle shifts that make a huge difference in your home. You do not have to spend a lot of money to achieve a stylish, comforting, and chic feel in your bathroom. You can add personality in many ways for very little extra costs!
