The first big change we made to our bedroom

We’ve always been a Queen Sized mattress couple. Our by-necessity choice to have a queen sized bed was in some ways made for us when Nathan’s parents bought us a mattress as part of our wedding gift. We knew it then and know even better now what an amazing present that is to give: the gift of good sleep. (Which, incidentally, ain’t cheap, so we never could’ve afforded something as nice as the one they bought us when we first got married — we were very fortunate!)

Then, our decision to be a queen sized bed couple continued when we moved to NYC. Our first apartment bedroom was small, so only a queen would fit — a fairly common conundrum in the city. Later when we moved to the Upper East Side, our queen life became a choice of romanticizing our choice — “I wouldn’t want to sleep that far away from you” was a common refrain when the topic of mattress switching came up.

That remained the case until we moved back to Georgia and into a house with more space than our previous apartments had ever offered… we felt it was finally time to take the plunge and become a twin sized couple! … *Rimshot* … Kidding!

Having the no-brainer option to switch to a king sized mattress was one we discussed a bit but ultimately decided was the right decision. Plus, Banks often sleeps between us, and we’re sure he signed off on the change as well.

As silly as it sounds, the change has been a massive one for us. More space, better rest, and just a general sense that we’re not cramped in our own bed has lifted a fog of sorts that sometimes loomed over our sleep. We never felt we needed it before, but now it’s been such a luxurious change to make!

After doing a lot of research on what brand of mattress we should get, we decided to go with Leesa! Aside from offering a wide range of options that let us nail down exactly what we needed in a mattress, one thing we love about them as a brand is the way they’ve prioritized generosity as a massive part of their business identity. They partner with tons of nonprofits in an effort to donate mattresses to families in need — they’ve donated over 40,000 mattresses so far! When you think about how many “mattress in a box” companies there are now, knowing that you’re buying from a company that reinvests that money into your community is a really beautiful thing to be part of — especially for something that feels as obligatory as buying a mattress.

As for specifics, we have the “Reserve Hybrid Mattress” — we’ve always been hybrid mattress fans in general, and this one has not disappointed! We’re also excited to share Leesa’s December sales event, with 20% off select mattresses (two free pillows included) now through Jan 1st. You can also use my code “AnnaPage50” for an additional $50 off your purchase!
