I wouldn’t consider myself an intense “seasonal decorator”. Do I love a gourd or two thrown around come fall? Sure. Now, Christmas isn’t a season, it’s a lifestyle, so don’t even get me started there. But apart from that you won’t find pillow changes and ‘I love living in a world where there are Octobers’ signs throughout our apartment. This is primarily because once the leaves have fallen, and we’ve moved on to the next season… there’s no where for those things to go in our apartment (the Christmas storage unit is already full, sorry).
Our apartment feels like fall year round and not by accident. We have deep rust tones, warm olive pieces and lots of cozy textures and lighting throughout creating a permanent autumnal tone. However, when different seasons come around, I do like to add a little something extra to make the space feel fresh, and I typically have to do that in the most practical ways.
Consumables are an easy place to start: candles, florals — things you’ll use up and won’t need to store! Mugs and platters already have a place in your home and if you have a cozy blanket then consider laying it out on the couch neatly for an added layer of interest.
I’ve rounded up a few pieces I think can easily be used year round and some pieces that are very autumnal but easy to store, so you can create an effortless, yet still cozy feeling in your home this fall.
