Back in 2020, there was a bit of a plant craze. Do you remember that? Were you part of it? We all became obsessed with finding ways to bring more joy to our homes as we found ourselves increasingly inside of them.
By that time, tons of research had shown the chemical, psychological and emotional (and even spiritual) benefits of having live plants around you, and people even began to understand how faux plants could mimic that positive effect in a tangible (er, non-placebo) way. Thus, plants, both real and fake, became ever-present across the internet and in people’s homes as they hoped more joy might sprout from their pots and planters. It’s ironic (or potentially, appropriate), then, that the most joyous time of year is a time centered around bringing either real or faux “plants” into your home.
The Christmas season, which carries a lot of weight both positive and negative in our family (as I’m sure it does many), ultimately brings with it such an immense sense of anticipation and contentment. Could there be something to the presence of vegetation that elevates our serotonin levels and brings that same psychological, spiritual, and emotional benefit in ways we don’t always acknowledge?
Maybe our positive feelings are as chemical as they are magical! Maybe it’s just that decking the halls, hanging garland, and adorning the nooks and crannies of your home with decorations makes your space feel like it’s in its Sunday’s best! Either way, we’ve found that bringing this greenery into your home — whether faux or for real — makes us feel some kind of way (like our home is complete before we even have a dining table).
As we’ve shared here recently, we’ve had a ton of luck with Wayfair when it comes to finding the finishing touches for different spaces in our home, and so far wreathe and garland shopping for the holidays has been no exception! The selection is unmatched, and we’ve found the website more user friendly than other places we’ve shopped. We’re linking our favorite finds below from Wayfair:
