“Breakfast is everything. The beginning, the first thing. It is the mouthful that is the commitment to a new day, a continuing life.” – A. A. Gill
Have you ever found yourself, in the middle of the day, feeling… bleh? Or kind of lifeless? And then it hits you:
“Oh. All I’ve had today to eat was coffee.”
We have found ourselves in that predicament more times than we would like to admit. But there’s a good chance we aren’t alone! The mornings always seem to go by too fast – don’t they? It can feel like you never have enough time to shower as long as you want to, make your bed the way you like to, have some “you time” to journal or meditate, and especially eat a well-balanced breakfast to sustain you nutritiously and give you the energy you need to start the day off right. One of our goals has been to make sure that, every morning, in some form or fashion, we sit down, have some sort of breakfast, and have an intentional morning to start the day off right with a clear mind — especially as we aim to set a healthy example for our son!
Well it’s a new year, and we really wanted to accomplish this by doing what we know how to do best—re-decorating our breakfast room. Naturally, we wanted to curate the ideal space that would inspire us to actually want to indulge in a morning routine that we loved. You know how you look forward to your morning cup of coffee when you lay your head down at night? We wanted to feel that way about the space we were going to drink our morning coffee at.

This was a project that we were thinking about for quite some time. We’ve always adored the idea of a breakfast nook. Whether it be a nook at a cute cafe or on a photo from Pinterest, we envisioned that one day we too would have the cozy and comforting breakfast nook of our own.
Our design choices reflect what makes our minds feel clear and relaxed. I once read something about how we should use organic shapes to mimic nature in your home – the technical term for this is biophilic interior design. That’s why we aren’t too into the contemporary modern homes that feel like corporate offices – grey, white, and black are colors that we stray away from. However, they are necessary to incorporate in your home. But if you only use those three, it can make your space feel soulless and cold.
Our breakfast nook features a stunning green wallpaper that captures the essence of nature. The rich, earthy tone not only evokes a sense of tranquility, but the texture of the wallpaper also adds depth and character to the space, creating a feeling of being connected to the outdoors. To enhance this natural vibe, we selected a calming art piece that reflects the serenity of nature, tying together the overall theme of peacefulness. Two elegant wall sconces frame the artwork, casting a soft, warm glow that creates an ambiance that is both inviting and soothing—perfect for a peaceful morning routine.

When it comes to seating, we made sure to blend comfort with style. The centerpiece is a cozy couch upholstered in light blue and white hairline stripes. The stripes add a subtle yet playful pattern, while the texture of the fabric brings another layer of depth to the space. It’s the perfect spot to relax with a cup of coffee. Surrounding the couch are three tan chairs that are so incredibly comfortable that you might have trouble getting up once you sit down! They offer a relaxed, casual vibe but also provide plenty of support for sitting for longer periods, whether we are enjoying breakfast, lunch, or simply spending time together.
To complement the seating, we chose a circular marble table that is as durable as it is beautiful. The smooth surface and soft veining of the marble give the space a timeless elegance, while the round shape promotes easy conversation and a more intimate dining experience. On top of the table sits a faux green plant—an effortless touch of greenery that brings even more of nature’s calming influence indoors, without the need for maintenance.

Altogether, this breakfast nook is a harmonious blend of textures, patterns, and natural elements that create a space full of warmth, comfort, and style—a perfect reflection of our intentional living philosophy.
The space you choose to begin your day in is far more important than we often think about. By intentionally creating a space that feels cozy, uplifting, and calm, you are giving yourself permission to slow down, be present, and prioritize your well-being from the moment you wake up.
A morning ritual, even if it’s simple, can bring a sense of control to our often chaotic lives. For us, sitting down together in our cozy breakfast nook each morning isn’t just about having a meal. It’s a small, intentional moment of peace before the day gets busy. We use this time for reflection, gratitude, and setting intentions for the day ahead. But the truth is, it doesn’t matter if you have a fancy breakfast nook or not—what matters is finding that space, however small, to slow down and connect with yourself before the rush of the day takes over. We all need that time for ourselves! Whether it’s at your kitchen table, a quiet corner of the living room, or even on your back porch with a cup of coffee, taking just a few minutes to breathe and reflect can make a big difference in how you approach the rest of your day.
