Go with the Flow

2/12/25

“Unleash your creative energy and let it flow. Relish the possibilities.” — Nita Leland

Last January, we introduced our “Word of the Month” series, and we’re excited to bring it back with full force this year! It gives us the opportunity to dive deeper into meaningful concepts, spark creativity, and offer fresh inspiration that ties into our passion for design, fashion, and all things lifestyle. So, without further ado, the word of the month is: flow.

I’ve always loved the word flow.

Flow can be applied to many areas of our lives. You can flow in home and interior design, flow in fashion, and flow in and throughout your life. Flow is an unmatched and unbothered energy that we want to incorporate more in all areas of our lives. Those “go with the flow” people have the best energy, don’t they?

When you walk into someone’s home, you can instantly feel if it flows well from room to room. There are certain designs, colors, and textures mixed with open or closed layouts and furniture arrangements all can create a sense of flow (or lack thereof). Creating flow throughout your home is a mathematical equation that takes a lot of time, planning, arranging, rearranging and then rearranging again. Creating a space that has a natural flow to it, in my experience, takes some time to achieve. Like anything that comes off as effortless or easy, it took hours upon hours, years and years to reach that objective. It seems ironic; in order to be perceived as nonchalant and graceful takes effort.

When it comes to flow within your home, you want to ensure you are creating a cohesive and balanced feel that makes your space feel open and airy. I think furniture placement and lighting are essential elements in this process, as they directly affect how energy moves throughout your space. And let me be not the first or last to tell you, Feng Shui is real. By thoughtfully arranging furniture, using natural elements, and choosing colors that align with Feng Shui principles, you can invite a smoother, more fluid energy into your space. When you apply these principles, it not only creates a balanced-environment in your home that gives physical comfort, but also mental clarity that promotes a lifestyle that flows with ease and intention. As we did with our breakfast nook recently, we incorporated natural elements (like green wallpaper, lighting, and plants) that create a calming flow within our space.

If you’ve been following us, you know we’re all about balancing maximalism and minimalism. We’ve created a clean, clutter-free space while still embracing bold, maximalist style. By reducing clutter and simplifying our environment, we’ve found that it enhances both the flow of our space and our mindset.

All of this considered, I am a firm-believer of when you look good, you feel good and the same applies to your home. It’s the adage from Admiral William H. McRavenIf you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.” And it is so true. When our home is in order and the space is flowing well, our lives seem to follow suit. If our home is a wreck and things are all a disarray, we can feel that in our lives as well.

As we try to embrace the power of flow in our homes and lives, remember that creating a space that flows with intention takes time, effort, and a whole lot of revamping. It’s not about perfection, but about creating an environment where energy moves freely, that lets you feel balanced, inspired, and at peace in your own life. Whether you’re rearranging furniture, adding a pop of color to your walls, or embracing the art of minimalism, every slight shift can make the world of a difference.

So, here’s to a year of flowing with ease — in our homes, in our work, and in every aspect of our lives. Let the creativity and energy move freely, and watch how it transforms not just your space, but your life. You deserve to feel good.

Keep flowing.
