Creating a Holiday Cafe Feel at Home

We often wax poetic about romanticizing the mundane and obsessing over the frivolous corners of your life. Whether we acknowledge it or not, it’s these pockets of our routine, closet, and space where we derive either small doses of joy or stress that add up to make a huge difference in the aggregate!

We’re also big believers in the small luxury of becoming a regular at places in your neighborhood. As such, we frequent a local coffee shop and have made friends with a lot of the staff since we’ve moved. There’s something wonderful about the passage of time in a place you only see for moments each week. The people are all going on their own journeys while the space and surrounding areas take on different charms throughout the seasons. In exchange, they see your life change too. Our son went from riding in the stroller to walking around causing a scene every time we come in.

The point is, when we become a regular, we open ourselves up to a scene that plays out along with us — and to allowing others to take part in our “scene”. We may only catch snippets of each other’s lives, but expanding your world to even a moment of other perspectives and stories is remarkably and unwittingly rewarding!

The reality is, however, that visiting a coffee shop every day is not always prudent or possible, so we strive to combine these two “principles of frivolity” by creating the feeling of being a regular in our own space — and thus bringing touches of joy to our routine! We recently updated our home coffee setup with a few easy touches: flavored syrups, beautiful dispensers for the syrups, holiday coffee mugs, and a tray to house it all.

It’s brought a little inconspicuous pep to our morning cup of cheer! We’re linking the pieces we added below if you’re looking to feel like a regular in your own home! (Because, well, you are!)
