There are so many symbols in life that serve as a reminder that “time has passed”.
A protagonist in a movie suddenly sporting a mustache or grey hair, Birkenstocks making an unexpected come back after 20 years in the back of your closet, or that one restaurant that closes and then re-opens as a different restaurant every two years (feels like every shopping center or neighborhood has one).
Then there are patterns of life we’ve become so accustomed to that they sneak up on us no matter how many times we’ve lived through them.
The first layer of pollen on your car welcoming Spring, the first time you hear a middle-aged man reminding someone that “it’s humidity that’ll get ya” signaling Summer is in full force, or that day in September when you first start to notice that the sun is starting to set way earlier than it has been.
This past week, we had one of these gentle reminders greet us unexpectedly. We woke up one morning to the sound of pipes clicking and clanging, which, if you live in New York or remember that scene in Elf, means the radiators have been turned on by the super. This happens at different times in different buildings, but ultimately, it’s a sign that temps have dropped, and cozy season has unofficially begun!
“Cozy Season” probably needs no introduction. It’s that time of year where you dig up your favorite sweater or hoodie, when you consider an evening bath just to take the chill out of your bones, and when you sleep in an extra five (er, 25) minutes to really enjoy the warmth of your bed. It’s the unofficial season to swap lunchtime smoothies for soups, to remove the *iced* from your latte orders, and to slow down the beats per minute on your playlist choices.
So, in honor of Cozy Season, we wanted to do a little bedding round up to offer some inspo for those mornings when you hit “snooze” three too many times.
*Before we get into the items we use for our bedding, one pro tip to consider is to double up your duvets. That may sound excessive or a bit wild, but if you ever wonder how showrooms and commercials make their beds look so plush, that’s how they do it! I shared about this a few months ago on my Instagram. (People always ask about how warm it is, and we do take one of the duvets our during July and August, but it actually isn’t overly warm most of the year!)
