Spring came and went like the wind, so now we are going to approach this from the traditional “spring cleaning” to a “summer spruce”. In today’s edit, we are going to help you spruce up your home for the summertime!
There’s nothing better than a spring cleaning, but if you haven’t had the chance to get to that yet—well here is your sign to do a “Summer Spruce Up” in your space!
First step: declutter. I know, I know, this is always the standard first answer to a “how to refresh your space” piece. But it is standard for a reason! It is such a fantastic feeling going through a closet or a room in your house that desperately needs to be decluttered and reorganized. We always recommend donation of unwanted items rather than tossing them in the trash—you know what they say, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!”
Step two: let the light in! Open up those curtains and blinds to let in as much natural light as humanly possible. Light and airy spaces feel cool, clean, and more inviting during the hot, summer months. It makes your space feel so much better.
Step three: add some indoor plants and flowers. Adding any plant into your home can completely change the way it feels inside. It brings life and color into it—making you feel refreshed and lively! When you incorporate indoor plants, it helps bring the outdoors in (especially if you live in a city where greenery and flowers are nearly absent). Plants and flowers not only add aesthetic appeal, but also help purify the air and create a sense of calm.
Step four: switch up your fabrics! When you swap your thick blankets, heavy curtains, and your wool/flannel/fleece bed suit for lighter, more breathable fabrics like cotton or linen, you will instantly feel cooler and feel more of a summery vibe.
Step five: bring in summery scents. We love changing up our home scents with the changing seasons! It completely changes the vibe in your home. One of our favorite things to do in the summertime to make our home feel clean and light is to make the William Sonoma signature simmer pot (lemon slices, rosemary, peppercorns, and a splash of lemon extract). Any citrus smell can transform your home into a fruity and summery space.
We hope you have a wonderful summer season!
